Description

Acharya Prashant explains that love does not depend on an object and is devoid of possession. He clarifies that love must begin in duality because without an 'other,' the word love has no meaning. Love acts as a bridge between the mind and its source, starting with sensory objects or ideas but ultimately leading the mind back to itself. He emphasizes that true love is found where one does not need to be artificial, lie, or wear a personality. In the presence of love, thoughts become silent, and one feels free to be their authentic self. If a relationship requires one to be fake or puts them in bondage, it cannot be considered love. He further discusses that while love may begin as a worldly attraction, its true measure is whether it brings liberation or bondage. A person is truly beneficial for another if their presence makes the other feel free from bondages. Acharya Prashant notes that the ego only seeks to protect itself in the presence of another ego; however, in true love, one feels comfortable being completely exposed or 'naked' without regret. He distinguishes this from superficial social lightness, such as being comfortable with friends while engaging in distractions, noting that true lightness is not found in avoiding the truth of oneself. Finally, he describes love as a form of grace that performs the difficult task of self-observation that an individual cannot do alone. Even when love feels bitter, disappointing, or leads to conflict between thoughts and deeper impulses, the essence eventually prevails over thought. He asserts that while thoughts may label someone as unworthy, the fundamental attraction of love remains inescapable. Ultimately, love is a process where the essence wins because thought can never truly defeat the deeper pull of one's source.
