Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the feeling of amazement or surprise in the world is a sign of a lack of deep observation. He argues that people perceive things as 'new' only because they do not truly know the things they already claim to understand. If one understands even a single grain of sand or their own mind deeply, the entire universe becomes known, and nothing remains to cause surprise. This superficial sense of novelty is what fuels desire and attachment. When a person realizes that everything in the world is just a combination of the same basic elements and that nothing is truly new, they become free from the cycle of desire and fear. He emphasizes that the world cannot complete an individual because the 'ego' or 'I' is essentially hollow and has no real foundation to be filled. Acharya Prashant further discusses the nature of self-knowledge and its impact on one's interaction with the world. A person with self-knowledge, or a 'Gyani', remains stable and spontaneous, neither bowing down to the powerful nor looking down upon the weak. Such an individual is 'Nishkam' (desireless) because they realize that the world has nothing to offer that can change their fundamental state of being. He critiques the common tendency to seek security in a predictable future, such as retirement plans, noting that a life where everything is already decided is a form of stagnation. True spirituality, according to him, is not about emotional displays or external rituals but about an internal strength and clarity that allows one to face the world without being swayed by its illusions of novelty or importance.
