Description

Acharya Prashant explains the teachings of Kabir Saheb, focusing on the urgency of the present moment and the reality of death. He asserts that death is not a future event but is happening right now as every moment slips away. He defines life as that which does not return once it is gone, equating the passing of a single moment to a small death. He observes that people often live in a state of procrastination, making excuses for their lack of spiritual focus because they perceive death as being far in the distance. He emphasizes that the mind is clever and always finds ways to avoid the absolute nature of the present. The speaker describes the cycle of rebirth not as a post-mortem event, but as the continuous carrying forward of unlived moments and psychological residues. When a person does not live a moment fully, it leaves behind a debt of memory and ego, which then rides on the next moment. He likens the ego to a heavy bundle of past events that a person carries, eventually becoming so burdened that their true self disappears. He distinguishes between doing and happening, stating that for most people, life is something that merely happens to them, much like a corpse being carried to the cremation ground. To overcome this state, he introduces the concept of the Witness. Using the analogy of a stationary train and a moving one, he explains that the true self is eternal and unmoving, while the world is constantly changing. Delusion occurs when one attributes the world's movement to themselves. He identifies two main fears: the fear that the mortal will perish and the fear that the immortal can be lost. He concludes that spirituality is the restoration of faith in one's inherent innocence and purity. By realizing I am not this in response to external events and internal thoughts, one can remain untouched by the world while still functioning within it.
