Acharya Prashant explains that the desire for freedom should not lead to the question of what work to do, but rather to an investigation of where one is enslaved. Freedom is our inherent nature and is always available, yet we find ourselves bound by numerous chains. Therefore, spiritual practice (Sadhana) is not for attaining freedom, which is already present, but for cutting and breaking the bonds of slavery. One must honestly identify their specific bondages and strike at them; without a target, spiritual practice is meaningless. Sadhana is inherently negative or subtractive in nature, as it aims to remove, cut, or erase what is unnecessary and obstructive. It is a struggle against everything that is unwanted and causes misery in one's life or society.
