Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the only essential thing in life is Truth, not companionship or love. He states that if companionship becomes a hurdle in the way of Truth, one must be prepared to do away with the companion. A companion is not the final goal but should be a medium towards the ultimate Truth; otherwise, the companion is toxic. Similarly, love is not essential. Believing love is the final thing leads to pursuing the wrong kind of love, which is merely attraction, sensuousness, and attachment. The only essential attraction is towards someone who elevates you. If love is of that kind, it is wonderful. The speaker defines 'essential' as the core, the Self (Atma), or Truth, which is the only thing one cannot exist without. Therefore, if love leads to Truth, it is fine, but if it becomes a barrier, it is not. When asked how to find a spiritual partner, Acharya Prashant likens it to finding a true Guru. One must first know what one is seeking from the person. The right partner is not determined by their attributes but by the intensity of one's own hunger and inquiry for Truth. He emphasizes that the purpose of life is liberation, and one must be one-minded about it. Since we exist in a state of suffering and sickness, a partner must act as a doctor to help us heal. This requires the humility to acknowledge one's own sickness. He warns against the game of mutual deception in relationships, where people deceive both others and themselves. Addressing the role of passion and talent, the speaker advises focusing on what one must do, not merely what one is inclined to do. He uses Meera Bai as an example, explaining that her devotional songs were a means to reach Shri Krishna because her love for Krishna was primary. One must ask whether the passion or the ultimate goal is more important. If a passion, like singing, is the most efficient means toward the goal of liberation, then it is right to pursue it. However, if it does not serve this higher purpose, one must find a better way and not deceive oneself.
