Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the concept of the 'voice of the heart' is a biological misconception, as the heart is merely a hardworking muscular pump. He clarifies that what people perceive as emotions are actually intensified thoughts. When a thought becomes powerful and active, it manifests physically in the body, such as trembling hands during anger or tears during sadness. These physical reactions lead people to believe that emotions are distinct from thoughts and originate from a different place, like the heart, whereas both are products of the mind. He further illustrates that thoughts and emotions are dependent on external information. Using an example of receiving a distressing message followed by a corrective one, he demonstrates how emotions change instantly as information and thoughts change. Since both thoughts and emotions are external and reactive, Acharya Prashant advises against following either. Instead, he emphasizes relying on one's own intelligence, consciousness, and pure attention. He concludes that true guidance comes from 'knowing' and seeing things clearly with one's own awareness, rather than being led by the mind or the heart.
