Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the concepts of introversion and extroversion are products of modern psychology and have no place in the depth of Vedanta or spirituality. Psychology, rooted in body-consciousness, views the self and the other as distinct entities. In contrast, spirituality recognizes that both the external world and one's internal thoughts are 'other' or alien to the true self. Whether one is talking to a crowd or engaging in internal dialogue, both are forms of association with the 'other' and are equally illusory. Vedanta teaches that the world is a projection of the mind; thus, interacting with the world is essentially interacting with one's own reflection. The speaker emphasizes that being an introvert does not inherently make a person deeper or more creative. True spiritual progress is not about following one's natural temperament but about the ability to act against it when necessary. A spiritual person is a 'third person' who transcends these labels, choosing what is useful for reaching the truth and discarding what is useless, regardless of their natural inclinations. Acharya Prashant shares that while he is naturally introverted, he speaks when required by duty. He urges the listener not to make these psychological traits their identity, as they are merely natural attributes like physical height or gender. Finally, Acharya Prashant clarifies that being an introvert is not the same as being silent or peaceful. An introvert is often just as crowded internally as an extrovert is externally, as the same worldly influences occupy their thoughts. He compares an extrovert to someone watching a movie in a theater with a crowd and an introvert to someone watching the same movie alone at home; the content remains the same. A truly spiritual person is one who changes the 'picture' entirely, moving beyond the illusions of the mind toward the ultimate truth and consciousness.
