Acharya Prashant addresses the issue of why educated people fall for misleading astrology apps. He explains that a person who does not know that life is shaped by their own hands and that the power to make all of life's decisions correctly lies within their own consciousness will inevitably become a slave to external forces. If one is unaware that strength, power, consciousness, and choice reside within, they are compelled to believe that their destiny is controlled by some external power. This ignorance of one's inner self leads to the belief that all power and beauty are external. Consequently, one starts chasing external things, which is called desire (kamna). When a person chases external desires, they believe their success is not in their own hands but is determined by external forces like stars and planets. This is the foundation of astrology. This mindset has two components: first, the belief that everything good and valuable is outside, and second, the conviction that whether one attains these things is also decided by an external power. This is why people approach astrologers with questions about getting a specific girl, a promotion, or having a son. They are seeking external objects, and they believe an external entity, the astrologer, can predict the outcome. The speaker criticizes this by pointing out the absurdity of asking someone for a visa who has never had a passport themselves, or asking a celibate old man about having a child. The speaker contrasts this with the true meaning of religion, which is not about the fulfillment of desires (gratification) but about liberation. True prayer is about silence, not making petitions. The entire business of desire fulfillment in the name of religion is an enterprise of unrighteousness (adharma). He refutes the claim that astrology is a science by explaining that science must be verifiable and falsifiable. A scientific theory is disproven if even one experiment contradicts it. In contrast, fraudulent practices like astrology are considered correct even if they are wrong 999 times and right just once by coincidence. This is the difference between honesty and dishonesty. Ultimately, the speaker asserts that Vedanta is essential because it teaches you who you are, what you can be, and introduces you to the power within you, freeing you from being a slave to any external force.
