Description

Acharya Prashant addresses a question comparing the spiritual concept of creation from a point with the scientific theory of the Big Bang. He clarifies that the Big Bang, as described by science, is an entirely physical event. According to science, the source of all matter is itself matter; it does not originate from another dimension. Science begins its inquiry where matter already exists, followed by a process or a massive explosion that leads to the formation of the universe as we know it. In contrast, the point that spirituality refers to is not physical. When spirituality says that the entire world has emerged from a point, that point is not material. Science, on the other hand, when it says the world came from a point, is referring to a physical point. This is the fundamental difference. Science becomes silent when asked what existed before the Big Bang because, according to its framework, time itself began with the Big Bang. The question of 'before' becomes strange, as anything before the Big Bang would be beyond time, and therefore, not physical. Science's domain is the material world, which it observes through the senses and analyzes with the mind, and this domain is confined to time and space. Acharya Prashant further explains that the concept of the Big Bang is a thought arising in one's present consciousness. The past is an imagination of the present consciousness. The only truth is what is right here, right now. You, in this present moment, are the creator of the entire universe of your experience. The past and future are your expansions, your imagination, your dream. The idea that you came from the past is a misconception; the past is born from your present. When you inquire about the Big Bang, it is your present consciousness that is doing the inquiring and creating the concept. He concludes by relating this to liberation (Mukti). Liberation means that while the body may remain, the 'Big Bang'—the entire constructed reality—dies. It is a state where the body exists without the Big Bang. As Kabir Saheb said, it is a wonder to see the body exist without the Big Bang. Liberation is the death of the Big Bang before the death of the body. This is the ultimate freedom.
