Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the true test of love is whether our actions are genuinely in the best interest of the other person. He notes that it is difficult to see another's welfare objectively when we are entangled in our own problems and lack self-clarity. When a person is consumed by their own internal fires and insecurities, they become incapable of understanding the actual needs of others. Conversely, as one becomes more self-aware and content, they gain the clarity to understand others and act appropriately for their well-being. He emphasizes that love does not necessarily require grand, laborious gestures; rather, it requires the 'right' action based on understanding. He uses the analogy of a physician who, through understanding the disease, can provide a simple cure in ten minutes, whereas ignorant relatives might perform exhausting but useless tasks for a patient. Acharya Prashant asserts that understanding the mind is a prerequisite for love. Just as a doctor studies diseases to benefit everyone, a person who understands the nature of the mind and its tendencies can help anyone, regardless of their identity. He refers to the teachings of Kabir Saheb, the Upanishads, and sages like Ashtavakra, noting that their brief but profound words continue to benefit humanity because they stem from deep understanding. This, he calls 'Great Love.' He further clarifies that doing what is truly right for others cannot result in one's own harm. Even if external circumstances appear negative, such as in the case of Jesus, the one who acts out of truth remains untouched by real loss. He concludes that if one feels they are suffering because they did something right, they either did not act correctly or they are misinterpreting their situation.
