Acharya Prashant explains that the origin of how a material body becomes conscious is a mystery for which there is no concrete answer, nor is one necessary. He notes that while consciousness has a material base, often associated with the brain, it also exhibits non-material characteristics. The essence of consciousness is its state of being sandwiched between the transcendental and the physical, which results in suffering. This suffering arises from being in-between, neither fully material nor fully transcendental. Acharya Prashant describes two ways to address this suffering: one can either sink into materiality through intoxication and drugs to dull the consciousness, or one can take the spiritual path. Spirituality involves rising above the material and moving toward the transcendental to leave suffering behind. He emphasizes that the focus should not be on the mechanics of consciousness, but on how it acquires suffering and how it can be liberated.
