Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the common question of 'what should I do' by shifting the focus to 'who am I being while doing it.' He explains that human actions are often a form of imitation or acting. Since most people are not yet spiritually awakened to act with true originality from the soul, they inevitably follow some model. He suggests that if one must imitate, it is better to imitate a noble character like Shri Ram rather than a base character like Ravana. He emphasizes that claiming to follow an ideal while acting contrary to their values is hypocrisy. For instance, one cannot call themselves a devotee of Shri Ram while surrendering to greed or cowardice, as Shri Ram exemplified sacrifice and courage. He advises that choosing an ideal should depend on one's specific life situation. For those seeking peace amidst worldly wealth, Buddha might be an ideal; for those facing oppression, Guru Gobind Singh; and for those seeking devotion in a restrictive environment, Meera Bai. The key is loyalty and integrity toward the chosen ideal. Acharya Prashant clarifies that while the ultimate spiritual goal is to be original and free from all models, beginners in spiritual practice must use noble ideals as a guide. By consistently asking what their deity or ideal would do in a given situation, a person can align their conduct with higher values and eventually move toward true self-realization.
