Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the mind is capable of solving worldly and material problems using intellect and logic. If a problem is physical, such as building a house or planning a journey, the intellect has the power to find a solution. However, spiritual issues like the quest for peace cannot be resolved through mental effort because peace lies beyond the mind's grasp. When the mind tries to solve a spiritual problem using its habitual methods, it ends up in a continuous, exhausting cycle of thoughts. Therefore, one must use the intellect fully for material matters but practice surrender for issues that are beyond the mental plane. He warns against two common mistakes: being foolish by leaving material tasks to God, and being arrogant by trying to solve spiritual matters through personal effort. It is essential to have the wisdom to distinguish between what can be achieved through effort and what requires surrender. For example, one should use medicine for physical illness rather than relying solely on prayer, but also recognize when human effort is futile. True wisdom lies in knowing where effort is necessary and where non-effort or surrender is required. This balance is described as the simultaneous existence of action and inaction. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that most people already know the truth but hide behind excuses and pretenses of ignorance. He suggests that instead of seeking new information, one should be honest about their own excuses and 'dreams' that prevent them from seeing clearly. While the state of complete awareness and complete unconsciousness is the same for everyone, the personal excuses or dreams that keep people in a state of semi-consciousness are unique. He encourages individuals to identify these personal barriers and stop deceiving themselves.
